The Poopy Dance

My kids dance the poopy dance.

I think at some point everyone does, even adults.

I wish my kids would just poop in the potty.  They seem to enjoy just pooping in their pants all the time.

My son didn’t get the hang of pooping in the toilet until he was almost 5. My daughter who just turned 4, is well on her way to never figuring it out.

My children dance around the house holding their poop in, and then when we force them to go to the bathroom they cry and cry.  It hurts them so bad because they wouldn’t just go. These moments are awful.

If you don’t know what I am talking about and you are a parent, you are lucky.  We use fiber gummies and those don’t cure the problem.  Reward charts don’t work for us either. Bribery fails. Punishment doesn’t matter to them. It seems as though it is a developmental stage issue, and they grow out of it, but it sure is frustrating.

How have you dealt with this issue in your home?  What advice can you share on this matter?

  1. I don’t have advice for you. however, I can being potty trained happened late with both of my kids and the older one had lapses later on. It caused some ugly times which I do not miss at all.
Good luck and hang in there.

It’s a common problem to have when you have kids. Unfortunately, sometimes there aren’t many solutions except to keep praying –both for them to figure it out and for patience. 🙂 Make sure they’re drinking lots of water too along with the fiber gummies.

I will say this. One thing to keep in mind is there could also be medical issues that, as parents, are missed. We feel they just do not want to go to the restroom, however, I know, as in the case of my son, the child does not have sensitivity most of us have and when he or she finally realizes they have to go, it is urgent and it can be very painful. Please keep an eye on the size of the movements your child does have. If they are very large, make sure to get them to their pediatrician as soon as possible.

    God Bless.

This is always a fun time of life. One thing to keep in mind is a possible medical condition. My son does not have the sensitivity that most have to “call of nature” and, when he was younger, he would make a mad dash to restroom and it generally ended in a mess. We then noticed how much he did not want to go. It wasn’t until we had to unblock the toilet that we realized the size of his movement (the size of a softball or bigger).

As the glamorous life of a parent goes, make sure to check the movement after you have had to fight with your child to put an end to the poopy dance. You may need to have a conversation with the pediatrician if you see anything odd.

Talked to the pediatrician… He said it was natural and we could give my daughter miralax for 6 months… tried it for two days, the results were not pretty! We just have to be patient and hope she grows out of it.
