Church League Softball Fistfight

I don’t think I have ever participated in or attended a church league softball game where one team or the other  completely exemplifies Christlike behavior. Often times, teams blame the team-members who play but don’t attend  the church for being the rowdy bunch. But in my experience, in over 20 years of playing or watching church league  softball, the problem is typically church leaders grumbling […]

Cyle’s Smiles – Safehouse (Movie Review)

This movie was a better movie than I thought it would be.  It was not appropriate for young children. One thumb up for worth the time to watch it. An action movie for tough guys. I enjoyed the experience but it was not the best movie I have ever watched. For more information check out the review here.

Bones of John The Baptist Discovered?

A team of researchers believe a knuckle bone found buried beneath a Bulgarian church may belong to John the Baptist, the New Testament prophet who heralded the ministry of Jesus. The archaeologists from Oxford University were surprised that the bones dated from the first century AD, the time of John’s life, and the DNA was consistent with… read more here

Cyle’s Smiles – John Carter (Movie Review)

This was an o.k. movie.  Not good, not great, but just above average. I give one thumbs up for John Carter being worth a viewing. The visuals, sets, and scenery, were awesome But, the movie sometimes lulled me to sleep with it’s slow pace. The movie is could be o.k. for younger children if they can handle watching movies with aliens in them. Check out […]

Top Ten Most Amazing Places (that I have seen)

Honorable Mentions: Ohio Caverns, OH           In my childhood I was mesmerized by the Ohio Caverns. I have fond memories of the times that I visited there. Garden of the Gods, CO             I didn’t spend much time in the park but it was impressive and unique.  Stones defying gravity and the elements. 10. Niagara Falls, […]

Christian or Follower?

What does it mean to be a Christian? I looked up the definition of the word “be” which can also be written as am, are, was, is, etc. The definition is as follows “To belong to a specified class or group.” So, to be a Christian is to basically join a club. If a person says they are a Christian, it is simply a statement […]

Muddy Knees

My arms ached as I hefted around 30 pounds of a muddy grimy two-year old boy.  Even though my muscles burned, I relished every moment down the mountain. My son Carrick was worn out. Tired of stepping over roots, trudging through muddy trails, and slipping on slick wet stones, my boy succumbed to his tiredness. He was a champ. His little legs had carried him […]

Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

Who doesn’t love the lyrics from the movie Frozen? I’ll admit, I know every word of every song. But before you judge me, know that I have three children under the age of eight. As a dad, it is my job to be engaged with their world and their culture. Plus who doesn’t love Disney? I like living in Ohio. We get snow all winter […]

Child Evangelists

I recently moved with my family to a new house. My children love it because we have neighbors. Neighbors who are there age, children they can play with. Like any good pastor’s kids, my children quickly asked their new friends to come to church. We were proud of their initiative, but we shared in their frustration as the neighbors reported that they are not allowed […]

Mosquito Nets for Jesus

A cacophony of nighttime jungle sounds serenaded my son and I in our cabana. Surrounded by darkness in the lush Belizean jungle, Carver and I had time to talk about life and ministry. My seven-year-old son and I led a family mission trip to Belize. We were stationed in the city of Armenia. We spent the days hosting a soccer camp and read more here… […]
