I am taking my three children camping tonight. Their ages are 3 months old, 4 and 5.
It seems that my wife and I are much more excited about this adventure than our children. My children keep asking if we are going to roast marshmallows. That’s all they care about.
We can roast marshmallows at home. What is it about marshmallows that is so wonderful anyways?
Hopefully tonight will be a great experience, but unfortunately I don’t have the best track record with tent camping. It is always because of the tent. They never seem to set up right for me.
We bought a tent that was on sale at Kmart for $99, it sleeps 8 people. I wanted to buy the tent from Walmart that sets up in one minute, but that tent was $250.
I am praying for patience with this inanimate object, the tent. I must remember that as a parent, I represent Christ in my actions to my children. If I am impatient with the cheaper tent, my children will not see the proper image of Christ reflected in my actions.
My goal is to have a wonderful time with my children at Moraine State park, and not let any mishaps or frustration destroy our time together. I will post my camping with young children tips tomorrow after the trip.
Have you ever went camping before with young children? If so, what advice or funny stories can you share?

Tip #1, L
eave the baby at home.
Whoops…didn’t realize your wife was going along too…in that case the baby is fine. Try to find a location near the restroom. We found a wonderful campground in Geneva…it has pristine bathrooms, laundry, playground, swimming pools, a little store, a church service ans a lot more….
We love camping! If you do try it again after this wend let us know:) and we love going to Geneva too! Talia was older than 3 months but still a baby the last time we went. Advise, have Patty take a walk around the campgrounds while you set up the tent, that way your frustrations will not be seen by the kids. The hardest thing for me was dealing with them being really dirty! Have a great time!
It eventually becomes more fun than hassle. Eventually:

That’s a great piece of advice Stephanie!! Even though our camping experience has been limited to our back yard the kids do have a great time. They like the marshmallows too…..but they talk about sleeping in the tent. We too are hoping to go to Geneva and go camping ….I’m seeing a triple family getaway????? I think that would be awesome!! Looking forward to hearing how your adventure went last night. 🙂
