An Irish Ring for an Irish Daughter

I have a 13-year-old daughter that I love more than anything in the world. She has always been my little princess and is now becoming a young woman. One of her favorite things to do is to celebrate her Irish culture and history. She plays the violin and fiddle, and she previously participated in competitive Irish Step Dancing. So, in celebration of her growing up, I gave her an Irish Birthstone Claddagh ring as a gift this year.

Claddagh Rings are an Irish tradition with a rich history. The ring itself is a symbol of love, loyalty, and friendship. It features two hands holding a heart which is surmounted by a crown. They were traditionally given as tokens of love and devotion to someone who has done you an important service such as saving your life or used as a token of love in a marriage proposal. The ring has been worn for generations in Ireland and the United States since the 1850s.

The typical Irish Claddagh Ring will have three stones on it–one representing purity, one representing fidelity, and another that represents friendship (and sometimes time). There are many different styles of rings, but the most traditional Claddagh rings include these three stones in order to represent each value that they stand for. My eldest daughter Peace was stillborn. In her memory, I choose the July ruby birthstone, Peace’s birthstone, so that my 13-year-old daughter will always be able to remember her sister.

My Irish Princess

My daughter loved her Claddagh Ring and wears it proudly on her right hand every day! I am thrilled to see her wear it and I am glad that she is proud of her Irish heritage. The ring is very durable and high-quality. I believe it will be a treasured piece of jewelry in our home for many years to come.

If you want to celebrate your Irish heritage, or just participate in such an amazing tradition, you can order one of the large selection of Claddagh rings found at the place I ordered my daughter’s ring, The Irish Jewelry Company.
